The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has resolved the issue regarding the amount of VAT stated in the bill. Since the VAT came into effect on January 1st, the department received a barrage of complaints from consumers regarding the payment of small change under Dh1 as stated in the purchase bill.
The Department announced that due to the lack of 10 and 5 fil coins in the market, a small change of 10 fils and 5 fils can be rounded off to 25 fils. But the customers should not be charged with more than 20 fils in addition to the bill amount. According to this, the consumer will have to pay 50 fils if the amount is above 25 fils and below 50 fils.
Ahmed Taresh Al Qubaisi, acting director of the Abu Dhabi Commercial Protection Section at the ADDED said that the procedure has been approved following the numerous complaints received from the public.
