The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi has allotted 182 special parking pink spaces for the exclusive use of women. Women drivers in the capital city have been encouraged by the DoT to make use of these designated spaces which have been especially designed for them.
The move initiated in 2016, has seen as many as 182 pink parking spaces established in multi-storey car parks. The designated spaces are also intended to provide a certain level of privacy to its female users.
The Mawaqif inspectors also take out regular patrols to ensure that the pink spaces are not being misused by anyone. Offenders who are seen using the space will find themselves poorer by Dh 500 and will also have their vehicles impounded.
A fraction of the women-friendly parking spaces can be found at Hamdan Street behind Liwa Centre. The corniche area has about 18 parking spots for women while Fatima Bint Mubarak Street has about 28 of them. Furthermore, the pink spaces can also be found at Al Noor Hospital on Khalifa Street and in Al Dana area.
