Abu Dhabi’s teen environmentalist aims for international accolade

 

The “Paper Bag Boy”, Abu Dhabi’s very own teenage environmental crusader is keeping his fingers crossed. This young man has been shortlisted for the International Children’s Peace prize along with 108 others from across the world. Abdul Muqueet who is all of 17, has earned global recognition for his extraordinary efforts to curb the usage of plastic by raising awareness. So immersed is he in his mission, that he is now known as the paper bag boy.

This Abu Dhabi student stands to win £100,000 (Dh481,782) if he bags the first prize. International recognition is no novelty to this enterprising student. He has already won the Abu Dhabi Award, the Princess Diana Award and the Kids Are Heroes Humanitarian Award.

He has also voiced his opinions at forums all over the globe, including the United States, Indonesia and India. Moreover, his strategies are included in the curriculum in schools in New Zealand, Australia, and Finland. The winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on November 20 at Cape Town, South Africa.
