Dubai city has currently 113 foot bridges with additional ones being on the agenda. The Roads and Transport Authority said that by 2023 there will be 167 new footbridges in the city.
As the RTA stepped up its campaign to raise awareness on pedestrain safety, the fatalities saw a stark drop to 36 last year. The RTA said that the infrastructure development plans and the additional footbridges will further enhance safety for people who use the brdges.
Moreover, the RTA has also initiated the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs as part of the awareness strategy. This is part of the agenda to bring down the fatalities among road users and labourers. As part of the agendas of the MoU, awareness will be generated among workers to enhance their knowledge about various aspects of safety.
