The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has launched the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) UAE National Robotics Challenge on 11th May which will run until 12th May at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi. and the qualifying teams will participate in the WRO international competitions, which is scheduled for 16th to 18th November in Chiang Mai in the northern part of Thailand. The 2018 theme is ‘Food Matters’ and over 1000 Grade 1 to 12 students from across UAE schools will compete in the national contest which will challenge youngsters to design, build and program robots that support the way we grow, share and consume food.
The projects are expected to focus on sustainable development through aspects such as promoting sustainable agriculture, improving nutrition, achieving food security or ending hunger. All teams in the WRO UAE National Robotics Challenge will receive Participation Certificates while the winning teams at the final will receive trophies. Dependent on WRO table of eligibility criteria, winning teams invited to participate in WRO 2018 Thailand will be asked to contribute to the costs of registration, travel and other related expenses. The competition also marks the 10th anniversary for ADEK’s annual national WRO, with over 10,000 students till date participated from across both public and private schools in the UAE.
