To facilitate the people who could not rectify their status due to certain circumstances, the UAE has decided to extend the amnesty scheme up to December 1. This move was announced by the Federal Authority of Identity and Citizenship on Tuesday.
The amnesty scheme had commenced in the month of August and had enabled residents who had overstayed their visa a chance to rectify their status. They could also choose to go home without the fear of inviting penalties of fines from the government. Those who want to exit the country do not have to pay any fines while those who wish to stay back can do so at a nominal rate.
The decision to extend the timeframe of the amnesty is the result of the UAE’s leadership wanting to lend a ray of hope to those who have no legal status in the country. Nine centres have been established across the country to deal with the processing of the vast number of applications that have sprung up in the ensuing months.
