Former UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has been officially appointed as the Ambassador for the Model United Nations (MUN) at GEMS World Academy schools, including GEMS World Academy in Dubai. This development was announced by the educational organisation on Tuesday.
The former Secretary General is expected to retain the position for the next three years, lending the institutions the opportunity to learn from his experiences at the UN. The MUN is hosted by the GEMS World Academy Dubai as an integral part of its curriculum. The MUN enables students to gain insights about diplomacy, the UN and international relations, thus shaping their world view.
As the ambassador of the MUN, moon will officially open the annual conference of the MUN, a venue where GEMS World Academy Dubai students will participate in an environment that mimics the proceedings of the General Assembly or Security Council and will also learn about the various aspects of diplomacy. On its part, the GEMS Education will contribute to the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, a non-profit organisation focusing on global citizenship, youth and women by implementing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
