In a measure that is sure to provide a round of cheer to traders in Dubai, the Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector at the Department of Economic Development (DED) has said that there will be an automatic settlement facility set up for traders who are eligible for the 50 per cent discount on commercial fines.
The announcement from the CCCP is in line with the directives of The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who has declared the year of 2019 as the Year of Tolerance. Moreover, this is also reflective of the efforts and initiatives of the DED to boost competency and also to put in place measures that would ease the burden of doing business.
The announcement delved into details of the scheme such as the fact that the 50 per cent redcution holds up only on fines that represent a first violation in a calenday year. The new system in place thus ensures that in the event of a commercial violation, the trader will get a text message that implements the automatic reduction in the fine. This is in start contrast to the earlier system wherein the trader had to file for a settlement.
