Dewa initiates measure to alert customers on unusually high bills

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has come up with an innovative solution to water bills that become inadvertently high owing to undetected leaks. A leak in pipes or tanks can cause water bills to run into the thousands especially if the owner is unaware. The Dewa will now send alerts to residents so that the problem can be fixed immediately.

Many residents in Dubai have come across this problem especially in the Jumeirah area. Some residents took to social media to highlight their plight when they found themselves facing sky high water bills. Dewa has also urged residents to check their premises on a regular basis so that any leaks can be fixed. The company also sends alerts to residents in case unusually high usage is detected.

Dewa will now send instant ‘High Water Usage Alert’ to consumers who have smart meters. This service will essentially be free of cost and has been welcomed by consumers living in residential, commercial and industrial areas. Residents have also been advised to update their contact details with Dewa in order to receive regular alerts.
