On Saturday, an announcemnet by Dubai’s flaghip airline, Emirates, said that a large number of its flights may be affected by the upgrades scheduled to take place at Dubai International Airport.
The Dubai International Airport’s southern runway is scheduled to be closed for an upgrade during the period of April to May, 2019. During the period of closure, Emirates is expected to cut back its flights by as much as 25 per cent with 45 aircraft not being functional during the phase.
Moreover, the reduced capacity at the airport will also mean that the airine will reschedule or cancel some of the flights while changing the aircraft on others. On an average, the Dubai airport sees about 1100 aircraft movemnets on a daily basis.
Though there is speculation that the closure of the runway may have an impact on the airfares, FlyDubai said that it was too early to estimate if the rumours have any credibility.
