Dubai Culture and Arts Authority launched the eighth edition of the ‘Live Our Heritage Festival’ in the Global Village today, in cooperation with the Dubai Association of Folk Art, and Dubai Culture’s Dubai Heritage Development Centres. The festival themed ‘An Eye on Emirati Cultural Heritage’, will be running until 7th April 2018 and will offer Global Village visitors a chance to enjoy an action-packed six-week programme of workshops and events focused on handicraft education in the UAE.
The festival has numerous educational workshops focusing on the UAE’s traditional crafts including thread weaving, palm fronds braiding, perfume making, veil making, silver crafting and coffee making. There will be craftsmen to explain each craft, the concept behind it, and its history and presence in the Gulf. The festival will also feature a dedicated area showcasing handmade products and an arena for live shows. Global Village visitors will have the opportunity to participate in various activities in both Arabic and English, which will help to reach out to various segments of society to raise further awareness of the UAE’s heritage.
