In a bid to boost the beautification project that seeks to upgrade the aesthetic appeal of urban spaces in Dubai, the administration is planning to invite international and local artists to showcase their talent through the medium of public artworks. Artists from the UAE, the Middle East and other countries can now find a viable platform to express their art while also providing a visual impetus to urban spaces across Dubai.
The beautification project is the culmination of an understanding reached between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) that seeks to spread this project over the next three years. The agreement will pave the way for joint efforts to flag off public art projects that will contribute to the visual landscape of the city and will include tunnels, walkways, bridges and bus stops of Dubai under its ambit. The project is an ambitious plan that expects an upheaval in the way residents and visitors to the city associate with the urban ambience.
The director-general of the Government of Dubai Media Office, Mona Al Merri, said that the project was the result of the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a multifaceted city that echoes artistic ethos while celebrating the diversity and creativity in art.
