Emirati Student scores highest ever IB results, says Sheikh Zayed is his idol

Omar Al Bastaki, a student at Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, broke all previously held IB records as he scored a whopping 42, bypassing the current record holding score of 39. The 18 year old Emirati student, who says that he has not always been an exceptional pupil, was beaming when quizzed on his amazing transformation.
Omar was far from the prototype of the ideal student while he was in his elementary years. By his own admission, going to school was just another chore for him and he did not nurture any grand or even mediocre ambitions. However, he says that his attitude underwent a drastic change when he was researching for writing a history essay on the foreign policies of the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed.
The life of the great man proved to the inspiration that this Emarati student so desperately needed thereby setting him on the path to educational excellence that has culminated in this extraordinary feat. The pioneering life of Sheikh Zayed inspired this young man to shrug off his inhibitions and tread the path of success. His essay was inducted into the National Archives last month.
Omar’s father, Mahmoud Al Bastaki, a board member and CEO at Dubai Trade FZE, is indeed a proud father today owing to his ward’s achievements. Omar, who is now enrolled at Boston University, says that his father’s crestfallen visage when he heard of his son’s pedestrian performance in the parent-teacher meetings was yet another motivating factor for him to shed his complacence in the context of achieving educational goals.
