As March 8 marked International Women’s Day, Etihad Airways celebrated the special day by inducting an all-woman crew on its first flight. The measure underlines the robust role that women play as part of the airline’s workforce.
During the preparation of the flight EY017 that was scheduled to fly from Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow, a crew of 30 women that included pilots, cabin crew, engineers, dispatchers and load controllers were involved in the operations.
Captain Sophie Blanchard of France and Captain Faela Stevenson of Ireland piloted the Airbus A380 along with support from First Officers, Pirre Susana Leese from Finland and Liesbeth Baldewijns from Belgium.
The cabin crew represented 13 nationalities and worked in coordination with the flight deck, catering to a total of 398 guests. Moreover, women landing at Abu Dhabi were welcomed warmly with a card and flowers while outbound female passengers were greeted with an onboard announcement.
