The met department is of the opinion that the scattered rain and thunderstorms could continue till the advent of the next week. As the seasons change in the UAE, taking the country from the throes of winter into summer, the windy and dusty conditions are expected to linger for the next few days.
Yesterday, there was a cloud of dust that enveloped most of the country, thus reducing visibility conditions drastically in areas such as Liwa and Sweihan. The unsettled weather conditions could last a while, if the reports emanating from the met department are anything to go by.
The National Centre of Meteorology attributed the conditions to the southerly wind that is often associated with a trough that is focused on the Arabian Peninsula. Even though the wind can prove to be fresh at time, it can cause dust to billow in exposed areas. The cold low in the upper air combines with the prevailing conditions to give rise to rain clouds.
Light to moderate rain was also reported in many areas of Al Ain and Abu Dhabi in Madinat Zayed, Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi Island, Al Mafraq and Mussafah, Al Shahama and Khalifa City.
