KhalifaSat, the first fully Emirati-designed and developed satellite manufactured on UAE soil, has been safely transported from Dubai World Central airport to Incheon International Airport in South Korea. The project was launched back in 2013 by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with a collaboration between Emirates SkyCargo and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC).

The aim of the project was to manufacture the first space satellite on UAE soil. The KhalifaSat which was transported to its launch destination in South Korea will be launched in 2018 and will provide images of the earth for practical application in a variety of industries.

“The UAE history has witnessed one of the proudest moments, as the most advanced Earth Observation Satellite, KhalifaSat has been shipped to its launch location! It is the first-ever satellite built in its entirety by the Emirati engineers!”, tweeted MBR Space Center.
