The first half of this year saw donors offering more than 27,000 blood units in Dubai. This has helped immensely with patients who are in dire need of blood transfusions. A major fraction of the blood donations will be used by the Dubai Health Authority to help patients who are afflicted with genetic blood conditions.
During the first half of 2018, the Dubai Blood Donation Centre in Healthcare City succeeded in collecting up to 27,401 blood units, almost 38 per cent of which was sent to the Thalassemia unit. Patients battling Thalassemia confront a genetic condition that causes depletion of red blood cells.
The Dubai Blood Donation Centre is now relying on latest technologies to ensure a smoother process when it comes to blood donation. The DAMMI app is a platform that is extremely user friendly and enables users to register their details quickly and also be notified of urgent requirements. The app will also ensure a glitch-free experience free from human error.
