In endearing new developments that vindicate the belief that the UAE is second to none when it comes to making advances on the global stage, the country is placed at the 6th position in the smart electronic services index and at the second place in the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII). This news has emerged after the revelations of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ (DESA) E-Government Development Index (EDGI) Survey 2018.
The survey has revealed that the UAE holds this position alongside a progressive European nation like Sweden and ranks above other European economic giants like Germany. The UAE also outranks other countries like Canada, the Netherlands, Estonia, Portugal and Russia in the smart electronic services index. In the TII rankings, the UAE is placed above South Korea, Britain, the United States, Canada, France and Denmark. Moreover, the UAE also reigns supreme among other Gulf, Arab and West Asian nations.
The latest achievements of the UAE are the definitive result of a series of initiatives launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, under the ‘Smart Government’ project that involved 1000 officials who were tasked with converting government services on to smartphones. Sheikh Mohammad said that the UAE’s feat comes at a time when the country is at the crossroads of change and is ushering in a new technological era that involves artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, massive data, and drones.
