In a refreshing move, the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoT) has announced that restaurants, cafeterias and vending machines operating in healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi must now necessarily provide a selection of healthy eating options.
Beginning from November 29, the DoT has directed the healthcare facilities to be well equipped to cater to the availability of healthy meals. The DoT additionally called for eliminating unhealthy food stuff from the menu like junk food, fast food and sugar-loaded fizzy drinks.
The measure comes at a time when there are concerns on how consumption of unhealthy food can affect health in a detrimental manner. This decision attains more significance in light of the fact that people visiting healthcare facilities might prefer to eat healthy. The DoT is the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirates and therefore implements measures to safeguard the general health of residents.
