The Abu Dhabi Police have urged motorist against indulging in the practice of carpooling or picking up passengers in order to make a few quick bucks.
The Police said that it had come to their notice that around 4941 such cases prevailed in the city and its suburbs. They added that only private carriers and licensed taxis are legally qualified to transport passengers.
The Federal Traffic law states that the penalty for the offence would be a fine of Dh 3000, a loss of 24 valuable traffic point, in addition to the vehicle being confiscated for a period of 30 says.
The authorities in the emirate have been carrying our awareness campaigns in order to educate people on the hazards of using illegal taxis. Moreover, it also put the lives of the passengers in danger as the car does not meet the safety requirements.
