In a positive development that implies UAE’s rapidly rising significance on the global stage, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, has been selected by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to figure in a 20 member independent expert panel that has been specially drafted to advise him on his High-Level Panel of Digital Cooperation., launched on Thursday at the UN headquarters in New York. The panel that includes stalwarts chosen from a wide pool of government, civil society, the technical community and academia, will be co-chaired by Melinda Gates, Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda gates Foundation, and Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of the Alibaba group.
The diverse nature of the members of this high-level panel will ensure that the cross-boundary nature of the digital field will be validated. The panel was set up with the motive of advancing international cooperation in the field while advocating the vast potential of digital technologies to transform societies. It also focuses on the utilization of digital technology to guard against possible risks and inadvertent consequences. All in all, the primary aim of the panel is to help in forming approaches that sustain the concept of an inclusive digital future for the world.
Mr. Gergawi said that the UAE is at the crossroads of embracing the digital aspect into almost every sphere of life. He said that his inclusion in the panel meant a better opportunity to present the UAE’s digital perspectives on a global stage. He also added that technology has to be integrated into our lives and people from all walks of life from various regions of the world should work mutually to transform the collective future.
