After the siege perpetrated by the Houthi rebels created a humanitarian crisis in Yemen, the UAE has stepped in to provide aid to its fraternal brethren in the crisis-hit nation. Since June when the crisis erupted, the UAE has provided more than 18,943 boxes of food and 432 boxes of mineral water to the Yemeni people. An estimated 132,601 Yemini people have benefitted vastly from the assistance provided by the UAE government. The aid has enabled the affected people to limp back to normalcy and find a footing in the newly liberated areas.
The humanitarian aid provided to the Yemeni people has been provided through its humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), and has provided the necessary assistance in addition to the establishment of service and developmental projects. The UAE humanitarian Operations Director for Yemen has said that the leadership in UAE has made it a prime priority to help the stricken people of Yemen and has directed the organisation to continue the aid work.
As part of the aid measures, the ERC sent an emergency relief bridge comprising ten vessels that carried an estimated 35,000 tonnes of foodstuff. An additional fleet of aircraft carried across 14,000 food parcels while 100 trucks were dispatched with essentials from local markets.
