In a definitive move that could see vital improvements in the content and form of the educational system, schools in Sharjah will now be supervised by chosen experts. The Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, announced the decision on Monday. Accordingly, private schools in the Emirate will be now be supervised by a local body that has in its ranks some distinguished international education experts. This announcement was broadcast live by Sharjah Radio on its Direct Line programme, where Dr Shaikh Sultan was interacting by way of a telephone call.
Dr Shaikh Sultan was of the opinion that the educational system in Sharjah could benefit vastly from a series of reforms that would target not only its form but also its content. He said that though the decision was taken five months back, the measures for its implementation are well in place. Dr Shaikh Sultan said that the educational body came directly under his personal guidance and will therefore be subject to evaluations and assessments at every stage. The quality of the teachers and the effectiveness of their teaching strategy will be gauged in order to improve educational standards.
Until now, the transfer of students from one school to another was a matter that was under the ambit of the education Ministry, but now this aspect will be influenced by the local body that is under the supervision of Dr Shaikh Sultan, thus bringing a measure of relief to anxious parents and school owners. Dr Shaikh Sultan also reassured the parents that the Emirate of Sharjah had the best interests of the students in mind.
In other developments, the Minister of Education, Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, threw more light on the recent announcement that stopped registration of students in 47 Emirati private schools that fell well below the high educational standard that UAE boasts of. He said that this move will go a long way in cleansing the system of any anomalies and will drastically improve the quality of education.
