To make the system more inclusive and accessible to all, the Al Ain City Municipality has come up with an innovative measure to offer services in Braille. The service is expected to be extended to other government offices as part of a future strategy to boost the comprehensiveness of the system.
The move by the Al Ain City Municipality lends a glimmer of hope to visually impaired residents who live in the eastern region of the capital. This new measure lends them greater independence and makes them self-reliant. Since documents and official procedures were only available in a regular format until now, visually impaired people would in probability have had to seek help from others.
The move is also perceived to be compatible with the UAE’s government’s policy to boost community service for residents. The workers in the municipality have received specialized training on how to use the Braille-friendly printer and were also sensitized to the distinct needs of visually impaired residents.
