‘Judiciary and the Law’ journal highlights the importance of rehab centres for drug addicts

Abu Dhabi: Judiciary and the Law, a scientific journal by The Center for Judicial Research and Studies at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) launched its third edition on Tuesday. The publication includes thorough research on the legal system and the impact of laws and aims to increase the legal awareness and law abidance among people.

With the new law, the Attorney General has the power to send an offender to a rehabilitation centre for treatment after getting advice from the police and public prosecutions. According to the authorities, the number of drug addicts sent to rehab centres has increased from 61 to 117 in the last year.

Jailing someone for long doesn’t necessarily mean they will quit drugs. But sending them to rehab can help reform them to become responsible members of the community, said Mohammed Rashid Al Dhanhani, head of Bani Yas prosecution.
