In a proactive response to the ‘salary challenge’ proposed by the Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, the staff of Lulu International have come forward to raise funds to the tune of Dh 5 million. The funds will be channeled towards the cause of rebuilding and rehabilitation in the state that was ravaged by floods in august. The senior management staff of the Lulu Group headquartered at Abu Dhabi responded to the call by M A Yousuf Ali, chairman of the Lulu Group, who urged them to donate one month’s salary to the Chiel Minister’s Relief Fund.
While presiding over the public meeting of the visiting Kerala CM, Yousuf Ali said that he was “fulfilling his duty”. He said that although the Lulu Group has more than 48,000 staff across the globe, he encouraged only the senior staff to make contributions. He then called on all businesses in the UAE both that are owned by Indians and others to come forward and contribute to the cause of Kerala.
Around 200 senior management staff has already contributed the money which will be diverted to the relief fund on Friday. This contribution is in addition to the Dh 10 million that has already been donated by the Lulu Group to Kerala.
