The erratic weather played culprit on Monday as it continued to have an influence on the traffic situation in Dubai and Sharjah, causing major snarls. Commuters have been reportedly been delayed in time ranges spanning from 45 minutes to two hours.
The inbound traffic from the Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road encountered heavy traffic snarls as the movement slowed down to a near crawl near the area in the vicinity of the National Paints interchange and the school zone in Muwaileh.
Meanwhile, there were major tailbacks on Al Ittihad Road as well, where motorists took as much as 50 minutes to make their way from Al Majaz to Al Mulla Plaza. This, even though the Ministry of Education has announced a day off for schools.
Traffic in the direction of Deira was slowed down in the wake of an accident that occured on Airport Road at 8.30 am. Meanwhile, the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi also announced that there will be road blocks and closures in place in view of the visit of the Pope from 6 pm today till 6 pm tomorrow. The roads around Zayed Sports City will also be cordoned off from nidnight tonight.
