The first half of this year saw a major rise in the number of commuters using the Dubai Metro. Estimates suggest that the number of passengers has grown by almost three per cent as compared to the number last year. More than 103 million commuters used the Metro services in the first half of 2018, traversing both the Red and Green lines as compared to the 100 million who availed themselves of Metro services last year.
It was projected that 36.5 million passengers used the Green Line while the Red Line catered to 66 million. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) say that the interchange stations between the Red and Green lines were found to have the most passengers with an estimated 6.3 million people at Burjuman Station.
The RTA further clarified that they were working consistently to improve passenger satisfaction and aimed to make Metro services safer and more reliable. He also attributed the sharp increase in the number of commuters on the Metro to better service and said that it reflected shifting attitudes to public transport.
