As issues related to water scarcity and food supply loom large over various parts of the world, encompassing a huge global challenge, a multi-billion-dirham budget has been sanctioned in the UAE that is dedicated to the same.
The budget will help authorities tackle hurdles and problems that arise in the domains of water and food supply. The plan was revealed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday.
He said that the Dh 5.6 billion budget will pave the way for research and development in the fields of food security and water scarcity. A report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) has unveiled water scarcity as one of the most challenging problems facing the contemporary world. The Forum exhibited deep concerns on the dwindling freshwater resources that in turn fuels food production.
