New Emirates road extension to be opened to traffic today

The northern and southern parts of the Emirate will now see better connectivity thanks to the new emirates road extension that will be opened to traffic today. Built under a project involving costs of almost Dh 90 million, this road is expected to lead to a steep fall in traffic congestion.
The opening of the new road was announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development via their official Instagram page which read, “The Ras Al Khaima Ring Road functions as an extension of Emirated Road. It junctures off Sheikh Zayed Road and runs for 30 Km to RAK Sha’m road towards Oman”. The new road comprises three lanes running in each direction and also a middle road island that is flexible enough to be converted into a fourth lane if the need dictates so. The new road also come siwth equipped with bypasses that prevent the formation of traffic snarls.
Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure development, said that this new road will go a considerable way in easing the traffic woes of commuters. He said that the road will see up to 60,000 vehicles in both directions on a daily basis. He added that heavy vehicles like trucks will not be allowed to ply the downtown after the RAK ring road opens, thus relieving the delays that are the bane of the emirate’s intersections.
