Tuberculosis is a dreaded killer, causing huge numbers of casualties across the globe every year other than being the ninth leading cause of human deaths worldwide. This was revealed in a report released by the World Health Organisation this year. Though instances of TB are considerably low in the UAE, it still needs a certain amount of focus which is why the Ministry of Health and Prevention has spearheaded an awareness programme about the various facets of the deadly disease.
The programme will highlight how the disease is transmitted, how it can be prevented and also the preferred course of treatment to follow once a patient is afflicted. The importance of early detection will also be emphasized. The three-month campaign is expected to raise awareness and will thereby contribute significantly in countering its instances.
The awareness campaign will run on until November and will be closely followed by a meeting at the United Nations where strategies to combat TB will be discussed. The campaigns will be carried out at the Ajman Free Zone on October 2 and 3, Umm Al Quwain’s Al Manama Hypermarket on October 17 and 18 and RAK Ceramics on November 11 and 12.
