In a joint venture spearheaded by the Roads and Transports Authority (RTA) and telecom firm Du, over 10,000 taxis in Dubai will be equipped with WiFi. Though the facility is already available in thousands of taxis in the city, the number of WiFi enables taxis will considerably grow in the wake of the initiative.
The project will be implemented in phases and will be an added convenience to the thousands of commuters who utilize Dubai taxis every day. Anthony Shiner, the chief digital lifestyle and innovation officer at du emphasized on the importance of customizing technology in sync with customer needs. For instance, the needs of a traveller commuting from the airport to the hotel may be different from say, a person travelling with kids. He also added that merely providing WiFi was not enough, while stressing on the fact that even though the technology was available around the world, some of them just lend a ‘poor’ experience. He said that the speeds and optimization of WiFi should be considered with a keen eye on customer needs.
Shiner added that it is a misconception that customers merely want a WiFi connectivity. He said that most consumers seek a seamless experience that would be compatible with their specific needs.
