Number plates will now be manufactured by robots in this facility

In a global first, Dubai saw the establishment of a factory that utilises robots to make vehicle number plates, thus cutting down on the employment of human resources.

The facility was officially inaugurated by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The factory retains the capacity to manufacture 33,000 number plates in a single day.

The facility banks upon the use of Artificial Intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution technology, thus manufacturing number plates without the need of human assistance. The RTA also has future plans to establish 10 such machines for the benefit of service providers. However, all the machines will be controlled through the central factory of the RTA.

The new facility is located at the Customers Happiness Centre in Deira. The robots in the facility process the printing orders electronically and go on to print the number plates. The QR code on the plate enables the system to be tracked from inception to the time it goes into the scrap yard.
