The legendary actress of Indian Cinema, Sreedevi Kapoor, died subjected to a massive heart attack in Dubai. The veteran actress who arrived with her family to receive the ‘Icon of India’ award at the Asiavision Television Awards hosted in 2015, has now become a sad memory. Sreedevi who has often been reluctant to attend award functions told us in June 2015 that she is indeed coming to the award show as it has been a long time since she met her Malayalee friends. Her last Malayalam movie was ‘Devaragam’ which was released in 1996.
There have been many superstars who became a part of our award nights, still Sridevi’s presence was magically thrilling. Our hearts were filled with the thoughts of how her character in the movie ‘Mr. India’ defeated a gang of ruffians while wearing a Charlie Chaplin outfit. She landed in Dubai a day before the award night, along with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Jhanvi and Khushi.
The first thing she said to us when she landed was, “I’m going to do tomorrow’s speech in Malayalam, I have noted down what I want to say, please correct the mistakes.” There were no mistakes in what she wrote and she even spoke much better than some of the prominent Malayalam actresses on the stage. The way she carried herself and shined on the stage made her the living example of ‘Grace’ in our hearts.
Every Indian movie lover will remember her eyes that widened when she smiled, her Tamil tinged accent and unparalleled dance moves. Her many great movies from ‘Thunaivan’ to ‘Mom’ shall inspire the coming generations as well. Farewell superstar, may your beautiful soul rest in peace.
