Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day trip the UAE, addressed a public gathering at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium yesterday. He addressed the Indian diaspora who had gathered in large numbers at the venue. The audince numbered around 25,000 and listened eagerly as Gandhi talked about “The Idea of India”.
Before starting his address, Gandhi thanked the leaders of the UAE with special reference to the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Gandhi said that the greatness of these leaders was reflected in their humility, a trait only a few possess. Gandhi also said that he held the UAE in extremely high esteem.
Embarking upon his speech, Gandhi said that while the UAE was celebrating the year of tolerance, things back home in India were in diret contrast. He talked about how divisive politics should be immediately curtailed and how it was anathema to the nation and its developmental agendas. He said that the country needs to come together as one and put on a unified facade.
