The Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) Metro station is all set to undergo a name changing ceremony. The station will now be known as Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) Metro station. This announcement was made by the spokesperson of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Sunday.
This metro is the latest in a string of metro stations along the Green and Red lines that have veered from having geographical-oriented names but rather have their names derived from business establishments or sponsoring companies. The DMCC was set up in 2002 by the Dubai government and has contributed majorly to the development of the JLT community.
The measure involved in renaming the station has fetched over Dh 2 billion so far. In previous instances, several stations on the Red Line have been named after corporates like Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Noor Islamic Bank and Emirates Airlines among others.
