In view of the impending Mass of Pope Francis today eveing, the Abu Dhabi Police has announced the implementation of a special traffic plan that will be designed to monitor the movemnet of traffic through the delpoyment of smart systems and patrols on the routes that lead up to the Zayed Sports City, the venue of the event.
The Abu Dhabi Police also hope to ease and facilitate the flow of traffic through this plan. The plan will come into effect from afternoon today and will be in place till 6 pm. Accordingly, vehicles will be prohibited from entering the area around the Zayed Sports City. Meanwhile, trucks and heavy vehicles (3 tonnes and above) and buses that transport workers through the Maqta Bridge and the Sheikh Zayed Bridge to Abu Dhabi, will not be able to enter from 1 pm to 6 pm.
The traffic will be diverted to the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street in the area after the Al Maqta Bridge to the Al Jaweyah two-way air roundabout for a brief period of time. In Abu Dhabi island, the entry of trucks will be banned till 6 pm today. From midnight, all roads around the venue of Zayed Sports City will be out of bounds for traffic. Moreover, from 12 am to 6 pm today, the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street and Saif Ghobash Street will be closed off in both directions.
