Following the death of Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the mother of the UAE President – His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, rulers of the emirates including His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, ministers, top officials and citizens gathered together to perform a funeral prayer at Al Mu’tareed mosque in Al Ain on Sunday.
The funeral prayer was offered after Duhr prayer and Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi of Ajman and Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla of Umm Al Quwain, Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the respective Emirates were also present.
Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi of Sharjah; Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah, also extended their sincere condolences to Sheikh Khalifa.
A three-day official mourning period starting Sunday was declared by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs during which the UAE flags will be flown at half-mast. UAE leaders expressed their condolences to Sheikh Khalifa through a series of tweets.
