As part of the events of the World Government Summit, the Global Council for the 5th UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2030, was held in Dubai.
The meeting was chaired by Mona Ghanem Al Merri, the Vice-President of the UAE Gender Balance Council. During the meet, Al Merri emphasised that the directives issued by the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on boosting the role and presence of Emirati women in the Federal National Council (FNC) to 50 per cent has reaped rich dividents.
The directives have also had a positive influence on steering women towards heightened participation of women in parliament and have already propelled them to make vital decisions on a national platform. The UAE Gender Balance Council was launched in 2015 and is being chaired by Shaikha Manal Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The objective of the council is to reduce gender disparity and to propel the UAE as a proponent of gender balanced initiatives, in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
