His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, arrived in the Chinese capital of Beijing in order to participate in the Belt and Road Forum.
The Forum, which is a significant event, will see attendance from the Heads of States of around 37 countries. The Forum that started yesterday, will run on till April 27. A video shared on Twitter showed Sheikh Mohammed being accorded a red carpet welcome from top Chinese officials.
The Belt and Road Forum was spearheaded by Chinese President, Xi Jinping, in the year 2013, encompassing projects to the tune of $3.67 trillion and touching nations in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and Oceania.
Some of the prominent leaders in the fray include Russian President, Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte. Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, is also attending the meet, a fact that is not surprising since Pakistan is a close military and trade ally of China, benefitting significantly from the Belt and Road investment projects.
The trade between the UAE and China have witnessed an enormous surge following the visit made to China by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in 2015. The visit triggered the signing of agreements between the nations that have contributed to the bolstering of the trade sector.
