As a goodwill gesture and what goes on to demonstrate the interfaith peaceful coexistence that is the essence of the UAE, the only Sikh Gurudwara in the nation has announced that it would be hosting iftars for workers during the holy month of Ramadan.
This was announced by the chairman of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara. The announcement coincided with the celebrations of Baisakhi, a sikh harvest featival that is celebrated with elan in the community.
The Sikh Temple that is located in Jebel Ali in Dubai, has been hosting iftars since the past six years. Accordingly, the temple will offer iftar meals to workers in the vicinity during every single day of the holy month. The Gurudwara Chairman said that since there are many Muslim workers in the area, the temple will offer them the chance to break their fasts at the temple premises.
The chairman also added that the free meals at the temple will be offered to every visitor irrespective of caste or creed. For the iftar meals, the temple will be adding dates, fruits, rose milk, buttermilk, and some snacks like pakora and samosa.
