Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, the Minister for Tolerance, hailed the UAE as a great example of pluralism and multiculturalism. Sheikh Nahyan was speaking ahead of the International Day of Friendship that is held every year on July 30. The event is held to endorse the role of friendship in sustaining peace in many societies.
He added that the UAE was a melting pot that was home to residents from diverse backgrounds and varied cultures. He further said that in spite of their cultural and ethnic differences, the UAE gives these residents a chance and a perfect platform to co-exist in harmony and live in peace.
Sheikh Nahyan said that the UAE was inspired by the legacy of its Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, who encouraged respect, solidarity and social tolerance. The country’s leadership stood by the great principles of Sheikh Zayed and implemented his values in the national policies and programmes. Sheikh Nahyan said that 9.54 million people live in the UAE out of which a major fraction was expats who lived harmoniously.
