UAE bans poultry products imported from Russia

The import of all types of poultry products (eggs, meat and meat products) from Russia has been banned in the UAE as a precautionary measure due to the outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain of bird flu (H5N2) at a farm in the central region of Kostromskaya Oblast that caused the death of more than 660,000 birds.

Import of all species of domestic and wild live birds, ornamental birds, chicks and non-heat-treated wastes both from the affected region and the previously infected provinces is also banned by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE). Thermally treated poultry products on the other hand, is cleared for import from all parts of Russia.

Dr Majid Sultan Al Qassimi, Assistant Undersecretary for Food Diversity Sector at the MoCCAE, stated that these measures helps to enhance the bio-security levels and eliminating pathogens before they enter the country, thus protecting public health and well-being.
