When hurricane Irma struck the residents of Florida last year, the UAE was the first among countries that offered a helping hand. A Dh 37 m relief fund was earmarked by the UAE towards hurricane relief. The relief package was recently diverted to the cause of rehabilitation of residents who were hard hit by the hurricane.
The announcement about the donation was made by Dana Al Marashi, head of heritage and social affairs at the UAE Embassy in Washington. Part of the donation will also go toward the United Way of Collier County, Collier County Public Schools and Grace Place for Children and Families.
The generous donation from the UAE will also be utilized to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure, repair playgrounds, and to repair homes that have borne the brunt of the hurricane. The UAE has always been at the forefront when it comes to extending relief and help to nations reeling from natural disasters.
