The UAE Food Bank has collected 2160 tonnes of food and has also signed agreements with 35 foodstuff producers, 13 charities and three sponsors. In association with the Community Development Authority (CDA) and a number of government entities, the bank plans to distribute 500 Suhoor meals to labourers on a daily basis after Taraweeh prayers with the help of around 700 volunteers, for the holy month of Ramadan.
The plan also includes programmes to raise the public awareness on the importance of rational food consumption. The bank will also work with its partners to provide 1500 snack meals, 500 meals for the RTA’s bus drivers and 700 meals to labour camps on a daily basis from Zabeel Palace Hospitality.
The bank’s 2018 plans focus on establishing food collection centres across the Emirates, in association with the local authorities. The first centre has been established in Ajman in association and the second one is scheduled to be opened in Ras al-Khaimah during this Ramadan. The charity has so far placed 80 fridges for food collection in mosques across Dubai, 10 in Ajman and 10 in Ras al-Khaimah.
