UAE forms moon-sighting committee

UAE’s Ministry of Justice has released a statement informing the formation of a Shawwal moon-sighting committee.

According to the resolution released by the office of Bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice, a committee will be held on Thursday, which will meet on Thursday, 14th of June at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The meeting will be chaired by Justice Minister and other officials include Mohammed Hamad Al-Badi, President of the Federal Supreme Court; Yousuf Said Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Judiciary department in Abu Dhabi; Taleb Mohammed Al Shehhi, Director General of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf); Dr Farouk Hamada, religious advisor at the court of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince; Mohammed Al-Yadali, mufti at Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), judges and others.

The decision also calls on all Sharia courts across the country to look out for the crescent moon and inform the committee of any sightings.
