A solitary ghaf tree, the UAE’s national tree, will be under the cynosure of all eyes as it finds a pride of place at the site of the Expo 2020. The tree which is believed to be more than 70 years old has been protected from any possible harm as the site of the Expo is being built to accommodate it.
Ever since the construction for the site of the Expo got underway a few years back, the tree has been protected avidly. Moreover, it’s also a demonstration of the willingness of the authorities to lend a green dimension to the site. The ghaf tree is termed as the evergreen tree of the desert and is capable of weathering the unforgiving conditions in the desert.
The senior vice president of real estate and delivery at Expo2020 Dubai, Ahmed Al Khatib, said that they have endeavored to make the landscape distinctly green and unique with the help of local plants. The nursery that houses the plants was built on-site in order to ensure the plants are ready in time for the event and were moreover acclimatized to the space.
