In a move that will benefit commuters and provide them a comfortable means of waiting for their rides, Abu Dhabi has seen the establishment of over 50 new modern, air-conditioned bus shelters. The number of bus shelters in the capital city is expected to double this year with authorities planning to introduce several more across various sectors.
The Department of Transport (DoT) said that the measure was part of a larger game plan to establish modern shelters across the Emirate. The initial phase of the project involving costs of Dh 35 million has seen 70 new shelters being set up, while another 30 are projected to be introduced by the end of this year.
The new shelters are extremely modern contraptions that come equipped with air-conditioning, generators and CCTV cameras, not to mention the variety of shapes and colors that they come in. Moreover, the new shelters are larger, thus accommodating more number of people at a given time
