Whopping Dh 50,000 won by Dubai resident in FIFA challenge

The Mall of Emirates in Dubai held an interesting FIFA challenge that witnessed avid participation by gamers from all over the UAE. An enterprising MBBS student at the Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University, and gaming aficionado, Omar Adel, pocketed a cool Dh 50,000 for prevailing over the other participants. The young student’s win comes close on the heels of the breath stopping Sunday final between football giants, France and Croatia that saw the former lift the prestigious trophy.

Just before the start of the final matches of the World Cup, The Mall of Emirates and City Centre Mirdif encouraged football enthusiasts to participate in interactive games that were held from June 23 to July 14. The event that sought to design the gaming zone in a way that encouraged interactive participation, saw a large number of contestants flocking in from across the UAE.

However, Omar Adel had another surprising announcement to make once he was declared the winner. In a move that pulled at the heartstrings of all present, the young man dedicated his win to the memory of his late father, Dr. Adil Mansoor, a cardiac surgeon who was killed during the invasion of Iraq in 2006. Omar, an ardent admirer of Christiano Ronaldo, has his origins in Iraq and grew up in turbulent Baghdad. Following the invasion, he and his family fled to the UAE, a country that gave them a fresh new lease of life.
